How does an LED bulb works?

LED bulbs are officially called electroluminescent diodes. Their illumination is based on electroluminescence, which converts electric current into light.

The diodes work thanks to semiconductors composed of two layers through which an electric current passes. When current is applied, electrons move from one layer to the other, creating excess energy - light.
