Crystal Light at the Heart of an Architectural Gem

Every space deserves lighting that allows it to shine in its full beauty. Whether it’s historic halls or modern interiors, we always seek a balance between tradition and innovation. When we had the opportunity to contribute to the restoration of the City Music pavilion in Herceg Novi, we knew it would be something truly exceptional.

Genius Loci Brought to Life Through Masterful Restoration

Our collaboration with the renowned architect and heraldic expert Srđan Marlović drew us into the fascinating story of reviving a place nearly lost in time. We had previously worked with him on the lighting project for the Montenegrin Parliament, which further honed our expertise in illuminating architectural landmarks and finding a harmonious connection between light and historical context.

This exceptionally talented architect, the recipient of 22 international awards, breathed new life into a building that had been stripped of its original form during an ill-conceived renovation in the 1960s. The restoration not only revealed forgotten medieval layers but also, with remarkable precision, returned the interior to its original soul and unique atmosphere.

Restoring the Building's Historic Identity

Beneath the main concert hall lay the remnants of St. Jerome's Bastion (Trnovac), now fully accessible to visitors thanks to a sensitive restoration. This outstanding project was honored with the prestigious BIG SEE Interior Design Award in the public interiors category for Montenegro.

A striking contrast between past and present emerges in this space. The flooring features partially glass panels, offering glimpses into the depths of history, merging two eras into a single moment. The neutral color palette, geometric elegance, and abundant natural light from large windows highlight every detail of the interior.

The Return of Crystal Lighting

During restoration research, it was discovered that the original interior had been adorned with crystal lighting fixtures from 1935. This was where we had the opportunity to contribute our craftsmanship. We supplied faithful replicas of the historic fixtures, including a magnificent Maria Theresa chandelier with forty bulbs and six matching wall sconces. These now gracefully illuminate the circular hall, enhancing its extraordinary ambiance.

The Return of Crystal Lighting

Delicately cut crystal bowls contain 24% PbO, giving them exceptional optical qualities. Oak leaf-shaped pendants refract light into a wide spectrum of colors, creating a mesmerizing visual effect. The characteristic metal arms of the chandelier are coated with glass strips, while glass rosettes further emphasize the historical character of the lighting.

A Dialogue Between Past and Present

The goal of this restoration was not to rewrite history but to restore its authenticity and soul. Here, history is not merely a backdrop but an integral part of a new architectural identity. And we are proud that our lighting fixtures have become part of this masterful dialogue between past and present.
