How crystal is made

Every piece of crystal goes through a long journey before it goes to its new owner. Today we will show you this journey. How is crystal made?
Each crystal chandelier stands out for its beauty, style and timeless elegance, but also hides the many unique processes that led to its creation. And while the result is a true gem, even the individual steps can be considered a work of art. For they require precise handwork and glassmaking mastery. We'll be happy to convince you of that.
For hundreds of years, Czech glassmaking has been a concept known all over the world and one of the main export items of which we can be justly proud. After all, our crystal ceiling lights, traditional and modern crystal chandeliers and crystal lamps also serve as decoration and reliable lighting for customers on all inhabited continents. Each crystal product travels a long way before it goes on its way to a new owner. What is it like?
The step-by-step production of crystal
1. Technical drawing
First, we need to draw a technical drawing that shows exactly what the elements created will look like.
2. The production of the mould
Then, based on the drawing, the mould for the glass castings is made. It is usually made from beech wood. It is then machined and subsequently shaped with a chisel into the desired form. The mould is then cut in half and checked in detail to ensure that it corresponds 100% to the technical drawing.
3. Preparation of the glass mixture
The basic glass raw material consists of a combination of glass sands, soda, limestone and other ingredients. We use a special composition that is used in the glassworks to create our unique crystal glass.
4. Working in the glassworks
The prepared mixture is melted in furnaces at temperatures between 1250-1400 degrees Celsius. Once it is completely melted, the riveting process comes in to remove all bubbles and impurities. The glassmakers then scoop the pieces of clear molten glass onto a glass whistle - a hollow metal rod with a wooden holder and mouthpiece - and blow it into a prepared wooden mould. If the shape is really complex, they use pliers or other tools to complete the final form.
5. Removing excess parts
The castings are allowed to cool and then the various projections overlapping the mould are removed. The cleaned blank is then passed under the grinding wheel.
6. Grinding the blank
The grinding wheel gently grinds all the edges, removes any imperfections on the surface and gives the crystal blank perfect lines.
7. Drawing the decoration
Some crystal glass is produced with decorative motifs. In this case, guide lines are drawn on it and then cut out.
8. Final grinding, polishing and other finishing
The crystal is cut using diamond wheels and then mechanically or chemically polished to make it perfectly clean and as bright as possible. Afterwards, further finishing, such as gilding or engraving, is carried out as required.
And what else?
Through this process, our glassmakers produce top-quality crystal parts and pass the baton on to other specialists. The fitters. They assemble the individual components, again by hand, into beautiful crystal chandeliers that you can hang in your hall, living room, bedroom or kitchen. No matter what style your interior is decorated in.
Really. In fact, one of the most common myths about crystal chandeliers is the misconception that crystal chandeliers are only suitable for traditional interiors. This is no longer the case. Many crystal chandeliers fit perfectly into modern interiors - and some are even perfect for Scandinavian style.
But some people have such distinctive interiors and tastes that they can't choose from the standard range of crystal chandeliers. But with us, no one has to compromise on their demands. That's why we offer you the opportunity to design your own chandelier exactly to your liking.
And don't worry, you will have a chandelier like no other, but its features will be the same as other crystal chandeliers. They're easy to clean and a great investment, too.
