There are many myths and half-truths about crystal chandeliers. Can you distinguish them from the facts, or do you just believe them because you’ve heard them so many times? Let’s explore the most common myths about crystal chandeliers and find out how things really are.
Myth no. 1: Crystal chandeliers don't go with modern interiors
We have saved what is probably the most widespread myth about crystal chandeliers for last. According to some old opinions, crystal chandeliers are only suitable for traditional interiors and do not fit into modern homes. But this is no longer the case. Manufacturers have produced a wide range of different chandeliers including modern design models. Crystal chandeliers even fit into interiors with Scandinavian style.
Myth no. 2: A crystal chandelier is difficult to clean and is ruined if you wash it
A crystal chandelier may be damaged by improper cleaning, but not by washing in general. Unfortunately, a great number of people use the wrong cleaning products, and sometimes even inappropriate tools, when maintaining a chandelier. Special ammonia-based cleaners are produced for the maintenance of crystal chandeliers. These cleaners can treat the crystal and glass parts as well as metal parts. Just spray the product on the chandelier and leave it on. Dust and dirt will run down onto the fabric you have prepared under the chandelier Manual cleaning is then necessary only to a minimal extent, reducing the risk of damage to the chandelier.
If you use the correct products while following the instructions on the product packaging, nothing will happen to your crystal chandelier during your care. This myth probably arose because some owners used aggressive cleaners, inappropriate tools (dust or sand could have been on the cloth or sponge, which could have scratched the crystal glass), or disassembled the chandelier and soaked its parts in water.
Myth no. 3: A crystal chandelier's shine is weak and has high energy consumption
A crystal chandelier is fashioned in its construction and design to perfectly illuminate the entire room. The individual candles are positioned so that they cast their light into the room and nothing stands up in their way. Any difficulties most likely arise from choosing the wrong chandelier with regard to the type of room, its size and ceiling height.
There is also no need to worry about energy consumption – your crystal chandelier can be fitted with energy-saving LED bulbs. These are now indistinguishable from classic incandescent bulbs in their shape and the light they produce. Compared to the older type of halogen bulbs, you can expect up to 90% energy savings with LED technology.
