In 2024, Northern Bohemia is witnessing a significant historical event—the 300th anniversary of crystal lighting production in the Crystal Valley region. The celebration of this momentous milestone culminates during this year's Crystal Valley Week (August 26th – August 31st, 2024), with the Liberec Town Hall becoming the focal point of this extraordinary event.
The family-owned company ArtCrystal Tomeš, renowned for its tradition and craftsmanship, will present a unique Marie Terezie-style chandelier at this prestigious event. This remarkable chandelier will transport visitors back to the era of Baroque elegance, where history and exquisite design come together.
"I am immensely proud that we can be part of this fascinating story, which celebrates 300 years of crystal lighting production this year. The tradition, founded by Elias Palme in 1724, continues to shape life in our region and brings joy to future generations," says Vítězslav Tomeš, director of ArtCrystal Tomeš. "Our chandeliers, whether classic or modern designs with dynamic features, carry on the legacy that connects us all. We invite everyone to come and experience this unique atmosphere firsthand."
Throughout the week-long celebration, a unique Marie Terezie chandelier will be displayed on the balcony of the Liberec Town Hall, drawing the attention of visitors from across the square with its impressive 130 cm diameter. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see it up close, as the town hall balcony will be accessible during the glassmaking festival from 8 AM to 5 PM.
This gem is the result of the meticulous work of glassmakers from the Crystal Valley, who crafted it for ArtCrystal Tomeš based on historical records.
The chandelier is an authentic replica of historical Baroque chandeliers, featuring hand-pressed, predominantly uncut glass ornaments made using the same techniques as the glassmakers of the 18th century. The subtle imperfections in the ornaments add to the chandelier's unique, authentic charm.
Instead of the traditional glass strips typical of Terezian chandeliers, the metal arms of this chandelier are adorned with chains of uncut rustic glass beads. The long chain-like ornaments are made from the same beads, and the metal parts are intentionally patinated to evoke the appearance of rusty metal.
Every detail of this chandelier not only reflects the rich history but also showcases the exceptional precision and artistry that is the foundation of the glassmaking tradition in our region.
Don't miss this exceptional opportunity to experience the magic of crystal art and discover beauty that transcends centuries.
