The Historic Marie Therese Chandelier Shone at Crystal Valley Week 2024 (CZ)

Added 2.9.2024 11:08.30

During the last week of August, Liberec became the stage for the grand celebration of the 300-year tradition of crystal chandelier production in Northern Bohemia. We were honored to be part of this extraordinary event. At the center of attention was our historic Marie Therese chandelier, which illuminated the balcony of Liberec City Hall during the Crystal Valley Week festival, transporting visitors back to the era of Baroque elegance and enhancing the entire festival's atmosphere.

Glassmaking festival: A tradition that unites the region

Crystal Valley Week - this festival of glass art has traditionally brought together companies and institutions dedicated to preserving the craft of glassmaking and showcasing it to the public in our region. Visitors had the unique opportunity to explore the secrets of glass production and its further processing, whether it was glass melting in a furnace, glass blowing, or the intricate art of glass cutting.

"The tradition that Elias Palme established in 1724 continues to shape the life of our region and bring joy to future generations. During the Crystal Valley Week, our historic Marie Therese chandelier attracted significant attention - it was admired by many visitors who came to appreciate not only its beauty but also its rich history. Whether it's classic chandeliers or the most modern lighting with innovative design and dynamic features, we continue the legacy that unites us all," said Vítězslav Tomeš, director of ArtCrystal Tomeš.

Marie Therese - A Famous Empress and an Icon Among Chandeliers

The crystal chandelier, which once enchanted the attendees of this significant ruler's coronation, continues to captivate with its timeless elegance. This majestic chandelier, with a diameter of 130 cm, was visible from all corners of Dr. E. Beneš Square, drawing crowds of visitors who had the rare chance to view it from the city hall balcony, usually closed to the public.

The chandelier, which has since returned to our showroom after the festival, is a faithful replica of historic Baroque lighting, composed of 5,300 hand-pressed, mostly unpolished glass components. "These are crafted using the same techniques employed by glassmakers in the 18th century," stated Vítězslav Tomeš. To enhance its brilliance, machine-cut crystals were also used. "This way, the combination of old times and a touch of something new is clearly visible," Tomeš added.

The 18 metal arms are adorned with chains of 4,410 rustic glass pearls, which also feature in the long chain drapings. The metal parts were deliberately patinated to evoke the appearance of aged, rusted metal.
For those who couldn't witness this exceptional piece in person, we've prepared a drone video that perfectly captures its beauty and the unique atmosphere of the festival.

If the Marie Therese chandelier has captured your interest and you'd like to see it up close, we warmly invite you to visit our showroom in Jablonec nad Nisou (CZ). Come and experience this masterpiece in person and let yourself be enchanted by its timeless beauty.
